SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

We have a responsibility to not only tell stories to inspire audiences to live sustainably, but to ensure we reduce the environmental footprint of our productions too. Here are our actions and goals to minimise our environmental footprint. We are constantly looking for opportunities to play our part in driving change and protecting our planet.

We recognise our role in contributing to sustainable travel goals as well as providing opportunities for local communities to benefit from our production, wherever we may be. As such, we encourage environmental filmmaking in the round where films are non-extractive, made not just about a subject but with them. Where appropriate we will promote sustainable editorial messages and products.

Involving the whole team in making a positive change involves every team member having a personal objective: to make Verri Media sustainable, put sustainable production into all our production practises, reduce our environmental impact and drive best practice.

It pays to save on energy, CO2 emissions and raw materials because that ultimately makes us work more efficiently and therefore cheaper. We calculate our carbon footprint early and offset through Climateimpact . Here is a general guide to reducing energy and waste. We have undertaken Albert training and continue to learn and update our policy.

Here are some of the ways in which we are striving for sustainable production and we welcome your suggestions to contribute further to this effort.

  • Reduce paper consumption – We print only when necessary and work digitally as much as possible. We paper that is recycled at least 30%, print double-sided and choose the option “eco printing”

  • We aim to buy less and reuse and recycle more (props, kit, electronics, office equipment) if there’s an opportunity to buy used items we will, and we will recycle and reuse items after shoots. We donate any production ‘left overs’ to relevant charities and organisations.

  • Monitor our energy supplier and enquire about sustainable energy with our suppliers.

  • Consider the most sustainable form of transport for our production and our shoots and encourage our colleagues, clients and contributors to do the same. Carpooling and public transport being the ideal forms of transport (COVID protocols allowing)

  • Recycling as standard practice on our office and on shoots where possible

  • Encourage organic and vegetarian catering on shoots

  • Bank with the most ethical option related to sustainability and fair trade

  • Share knowledge and innovation with our colleagues, clients and contributors

  • Be energy efficient by using LED lamps and not leave lights on unnecessarily

  • We are a small multiskilled, efficient team. We will evaluate the value of air travel and travelling overseas vs using local crew, or self shooting solutions on each production.

  • We choose the most sustainable methods for capturing content on a per project basis and are well versed in remote direction, using local crews and recording online where appropriate.

We will evaluate these goals regularly and support our clients targets.
